     Alberobello

On December the 7th 1996, the Unesco inserted the “Trullis of Alberobello” into the list of world wonders, to be protected and preserved as unique and exceptional marks of a disappeared civilization and cultural tradition, offering an example of building techniques relative to a meaningful historical moment, constituting an example of human dwelling representative of a culture. The history behind the trulli is that in the Middle Ages anyone who built a dwelling on the King's land would be heavily taxed. Due to this the people of Puglia cleverly designed the drywall stone Trulli  for purposes of tax evasion. When the taxman arrived  the Trulli were rapidly  dismantled. After he left the trulli would be rebuilt. Alberobello, the Trulli capital, is a fairy-tale city. Signs adorning each home add magic to the already amazing setting. With over 1,500 trulli in the town it is no wonder people travel from all over to see it. A wealth of history, art, food and beauty that rivaling anything in Italy. The people of Alberobello are generous, warm and very kind and will make you very welcome in there town.

Scattered around the countryside of Puglia these unique white buildings are quite spectacular.
With thick stone walls and there white paint to reflex the sun, this keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter months.
The cones are constructed without mortar. This clever design allows air to circulate between the slates and enter the trullo inside.
There are many trulli which have been abandoned for many years in the countryside.
These properties are now being bought, renovated and brought back to there original beauty.
Using traditional techniques, local materials and knowledge, and with the help of technicians, geometrists and trullari  (builders qualified to restore trulli) these trulli are not being restored in a traditional way so you can now enjoy a high standard of living.
Agenzia dei trulli has overseen the full renovation of many of the trulli in the Puglian countryside.
If you are not living here regular updates can be sent to keep you updated on the progress of our property either by phone or pictures sent by email.

In many ways Puglia has not changed for many years.
The slow pace of life, strong family values and need for people to care and help one another makes Puglia quite unique.
On the other hand it has chic cafes, designer shops, stylish restaurant, bars and nightclubs which are serious competition for any cosmopolitan city.
It is an interesting place with rich sun baked land famous for producing olives, grapes, fruit and vegetables.
Surrounded by clear blue sea and inhabited by warm friendly people from different cultures and civilizations.
It is the beautiful south in every respect.
Step off of the world into this sanctuary of trulli, caves and sea and enjoy what is important in life.
